General Rating Scales

Create general rating scales if you want to describe your enterprise's competencies in a general way. With a general method, you do not hold the proficiency level at the competence level. Instead, you use a rating scale and text to describe the competence in a general way. Look at the benefits provided by this level of consistency of measurement during assessment and appraisal across your whole enterprise!

The Relationship Between a Common System of Measurement

Figure 1 - 27 illustrates the relationship between competencies, and a general proficiency rating scale in a common system of measurement.

We suggest that you use the same rating scale measurements throughout, if you decide to use the common system of measurement in your enterprise. For example, if you use rating levels of 1 to 3 for one rating scale, stick to this scale if you set up many scales with different proficiency levels.
